Unless you live under a rock, which actually seems like a kinda cool way to live, you’ve probably heard about the coronavirus and its recent spread. With confirmed cases multiplying daily, the effects on the health and fitness community are becoming evident.
The Arnold Expo has been canceled, with a statement by Arnold himself about the risk of bringing 250,000 people together in one shared space. Natural Products Expo West, the annual showcasing of new natural products in the health market, has been postponed. The Asia CrossFit Championship, an official CrossFit Sanctioned event, is postponed as is the Compex Box Challenge in Italy. The Summer Olympics seem to be up in the air, with conflicting reports out on how they will proceed.
What the heck do we do now?
Keep an eye on symptoms. The World Health Organization states, “Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.”
The WHO continues, listing the following recommendations to prevent further spread of the coronavirus. They recommend “regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.”
